I recently purchased two very old military medals and I'm just wondering if anyone can identify them, maybe tell what branch of military they belonged to? I've included pictures to better identify : http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc82/Dav_Lyn/DSCF2357.jpg Front Says Efficiency, Honor, Fidelity around outer edge http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc82/Dav_Lyn/DSCF2356.jpg Back says For Good Conduct 2nd medal http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc82/Dav_Lyn/DSCF2359.jpg Front No legible writing other than the year 1775 http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc82/Dav_Lyn/DSCF2368.jpg Back says For Military Achievement Thanks in advance for all information
first one is an Army Good Conduct medal. I cannot identify the other though the color scheme is almost exactly like the Joint service Achievement medal. Update :: I must be getting old, if you blow up my picture you will see both ribbons the second is the Army Achievement.
Recently my Grandparent has had several war medals stoeln from him, we have checked local, pawn shops and antique shops but no luck was occured in finding them. Is there a way to get new ones or are they gone?
You can request new ones from the military. I know people who do this all the time. Call the local Veteran's Affairs office, or someone at the VFW for advice.
the 100 year old Biese piano is in perfect condition. It is made of burled cherry wood with Ivory keys, and was mnfg. in Berlin, Germany. The medals on it indicate it was made for the German royal family, in the late 1800's.
Musical instruments are best appraised by people who know them, not just an antique dealer. Even if it looks perfect, it may have problems. Also if it is in perfect working order, it may be work very much more to a collector. The Biese piano site below is a good place to start. Then look for a piano deal who knows the area.
medallion is in the shape of a star with 3 stones on it, a hand holding a heart, a skull and crossbones, a beehive and one eye.
The medallion you have is most likely Masonic in origin, possibly a pendant or other type of emblematic jewelry made for the Order of the Eastern Star or another Masonic subgroup. For more information on the emblems, see the sources. Hope this helps --
I found an antique firemens medal in my backyard several years back and just got around to cleaning it up. Everything is legible and its dated 1910. Heres a link to an ok photo I took of it. http://img190.imageshack.us/i/picture18h.jpg/ If anyone is interested please let me know, but i don't really know any good places. Its for Altoona, PA Well, I instead just donated it to the local fire department. I've known the people that worked there for awhile so really, id rather give it to a place where its going to be well taken care of and respected than sell it to someone for them to just throw in a drawer.
I would ask the Community at "I Antique Online" http://www.iantiqueonline.com They have over 2000 members who buy, sell or collect antiques and art. You will get more specialized feedback this way.
